Signs, signs, everywhere there are signs..... well, not in front of our
High School. On Tuesday, the
Board of Education approved the purchase of a new electronic sign for in front (just west of the front parking lot) of the High School along Campus Parkway. The sign will be a full color sign with a district managed electronic message. The message will be able to include four lines of text, as well as graphics, pictures and even video – all managed via the web.
One of best aspects of getting the sign is that there are multiple groups involved in funding the project. The High School PTO, led by Ms. Ann Dowling, Community Education, SHS Class of 2008 and Wal-Mart have all made significant contributions towards the purchase and installation of the sign. The rest of the costs will be covered from the remaining bond funds.
Here is a rendition of what the sign will look like when it is installed this May.

Why put it next to the school? Wouldn't it be better at the entrance at State St., where everyone could see what is going on at the school? I am just thinking of the sign at Pioneer on the corner, so all who drive by Stadium and Main can see it. I would love to know if something interesting like a concert or game is going on, but I have no reason to go to the HS, since my kids are much younger. Thanks.

We chose the location based on intention of having a sign in front of the building. Often, we will have messages on the sign that we would like our SHS students to view along with parents dropping off or picking up students. We did have numerous conversations regarding locations - State St., Campus Parkway & Industrial, Industrial & Michigan Ave. were all discussed at various times over the past 4 years. In the end, it was decided that this location was the one that best fit our needs. I agree that a sign at State St. would be an excellent promotional tool to let community members know about what is happening in our district. We can still look to pursue a sign at that location in the future. Thank you for the feedback.
